Gurdwara Operating Status: An Update

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Guru Piari Sadh Sangat Ji,

While we need to continue to be vigilant under the prevailing Coronavirus-related situation, the Sikh Foundation of Virginia (“SFV”) management wants to remind Sangat that, as we have been announcing during our virtual diwan broadcasts for quite some time now, the Gurdwara Sahib currently operates as per the policy below.

“The SFV Gurdwara Sahib building (lobby area and diwan hall, not the langar hall) are open daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.  Individuals are able to pay obeisance (Mathaa Tek) in the diwan hall during these hours.  In addition, sangat members can attend diwans in person on Thursdays (7:00pm to 8:00pm) and Sundays (10:00am to 12:00pm noon) that we have been live streaming on Facebook and YouTube.  Keeping in mind health safety of bhai sahibs, except for during diwans, they generally will not be in the diwan hall except for performing morning and evening religious services (Parkash and Nitnem in the morning, and Rehras Sahib Path and Sukh Asan in the evening).  Dry Parshad in small plastic bags is available for individuals who come in for Mathaa Tek, and regular Parshad is served during diwans.  However, as kitchen facilities remain closed for langar preparations, langar will be served at the end of diwans only on days when a sponsoring family brings it prepared from home.  While visiting Gurdwara Sahib and attending diwans, wearing of masks is required.  In view of the social distancing requirements (6 feet apart), members residing in the same household (male/female) should sit together so that more devotees could be accommodated in the diwan hall.

While visiting Gurdwara Sahib, please observe all precautions as listed below, especially wash your hands thoroughly, observe social distancing, wear mask, and avoid unnecessary contact with surfaces.

As mentioned above, the SFV Gurdwara Sahib has been broadcasting virtual broadcast of kirtan diwans on Thursdays (7:00pm to 8:00pm) and Sundays (10:00am to 12:00pm) since Vaisakhi in April, and plans to continue to do so until normalcy returns. You can watch these virtual diwans on Gurdwara website (sfvweb.org) - click on the LIVE button, or on Facebook - open your account and search for Sikh Foundation Virginia.  Please note that the SFV website is now SFVweb.org.

APPEAL: Given that the Gurdwara Sahib’s regular services remain interrupted due to the Coronavirus situation, there is not much bheta (donation) income coming in. However, at the same time, all the expenses with regard to salaries, utilities, insurance, mortgage, etc., are being borne out of Gurdwara Sahib’s depleting rainy day funds. In view of this, we appeal to sangat to continue offering bheta to Gurdwara Sahib to defray some of these expenses by mailing checks to: Sikh Foundation of Virginia, 7250 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039. We thank those who have already sent bheta to Gurdwara Sahib, and encourage others to do so.  For Sangat’s convenience, a PayPal account is now established on the Gurdwara Sahib website (sfvweb.org), and it has credit card donation capability as well.  DONATE and receive Waheguru’s blessings..

Meanwhile, continue to take precautions according to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public health experts. As you may be aware, the recommended precautions include:

  • Wash hands regularly with soap for at least 20 seconds, and use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching face with unwashed hands.
  • Stay at home and wear masks and gloves outside the house, and practice social distancing.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay at home if you are sick, and avoid large groups.

Please stay safe and healthy, and in Chardi Kala!

Sincerely,
SFV Management
